The Best IKEA Decor Items for a Stylish Home on a Budget

Here’s a collection of top IKEA decor items that offer a high-end aesthetic at an affordable price, perfect for achieving a timeless modern farmhouse style in your home:

This post has been brewing in my mind for a while now. Every time I glance around our house, I can’t help but think, “Wow, my love for IKEA decor is real.”

Whether it’s my Swedish heritage influencing me or simply my love for a great bargain, I can’t resist getting lost in our local IKEA store.

However, there’s an art to it. Decorating with IKEA items can easily veer into “college dorm room” territory if not done thoughtfully.

So, I’ve compiled a list of my go-to IKEA pieces that exude a high-end look without breaking the bank. And no, this isn’t a sponsored post—I’m pretty sure IKEA has no clue I exist. I simply enjoy sharing valuable decor insights with all of you.

Here are some of the top IKEA decor items that can elevate the style of your home without breaking the bank:

  1. Vadholma Plate Shelf / Rack

Although the specific plate rack I purchased at IKEA has been discontinued (formerly known as Galemby), they offer a very similar version now. Priced at $70, it’s a steal considering the quality and design. I personally couldn’t replicate it for less. As a bonus, I customized ours with a coat of Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black.

2. Ritva Curtains

The curtains from IKEA are amazing! They’re my first pick because, in contrast to many other retailers, IKEA has a wide selection of 96″ or longer curtains, which are ideal for creating an exquisite floor-to-ceiling look. What’s the best thing, then? Just $25 gets you a pair! I love how their texture mimics linen, giving any space a refined touch. Furthermore, you wouldn’t even save money if you tried to manufacture them yourself using bed sheets because they’re so inexpensively priced. For a more opulent look, you can let them pool on the floor. Alternatively, you can hem them quickly and easily using Heat n Bond or hemming tape (though I haven’t had time to hem mine yet because I have so many other tasks to finish).

3. Lenda Curtains

The Lenda curtains are one of my other favorite IKEA decor pieces that have a luxurious feel to them. They have a gorgeous embroidery detail that gives a sophisticated touch to any space. To further enhance their appearance, I took out the tabs from the tops of mine and hung them with clip rings, which gave them a more refined aspect.

4. Matilda Curtains

These light and flowing curtains, with their charming raised pattern, are ideal for a playroom or children’s room. I even made them even better in our former playroom by adorning them with pom pom trim, which gave them an appearance akin to the more costly ones purchased at Anthropologie.

5. Farlov Sofa

I’ve written two full blog entries about this sofa and included an update on how it’s holding up. It’s a great option, especially if you have children or dogs. That slipcover is easy to remove whenever necessary, throw in the laundry, and it feels like a brand-new couch. I remember seeing one almost exactly like it at Pottery Barn, though of course it costs $1,000 more.
